Frequently Asked Questions for Pet Owners
We understand that you may have a few questions about what we do. If the information below does not answer your question, please ask your primary care veterinarian, or give us a call at (281) 229-1881 or send an email to info@bayoucityvetspecialists.com.
BCMVS is a unique, mobile, specialist service where an internal medicine specialist is capable of bringing internal medicine diagnostic services to your veterinarian’s office. Depending on what is going on with your pet, your veterinarian may request services such as an ultrasound to gather additional information about a condition your pet may be affected by. The good news is that you do not have to take your pet to a different veterinary hospital for these services. You can have all the testing done under your local veterinarian’s care. This eliminates extended wait times to get into a specialist hospital, extended drive time, or having to take time off of work. Additionally, the same, local veterinarian you have been working closely with remains your point of contact regarding results obtained via services provided by BCMVS and any additional next steps recommended by the specialist.
The services provided by BCMVS are slightly different in that you will not be meeting face to face with the specialist. However, you do get the ability to provide important details about your pet with an online questionnaire that the specialist will read and the specialist will interpret the information you provide them in addition to any of the other history and testing results provided by your local veterinarian.
Unlike other consultation services, you will receive a comprehensive report that describes what all was done to your pet and any results obtained from these tests. Sometimes, test results may be pending due to turnaround time through a lab. In this case, “pending” will be listed next to the test listed in your report. If a diagnosis is made or suspected, you will also get a detailed description about this condition. Any medications recommended with come with dose and frequency recommendations along with any common side effects associated with these medications.
You should contact your local veterinarian with any questions you have about the report, recommendations, tests, or results. Direct contact between pet owners and BCMVS goes against our philosophy of keeping your local veterinarian as an important part of the decision-making process for your pet.
Your veterinarian will bill you directly for any of the services provided by BCMVS. In some cases, depending on your veterinarian or requested services, a deposit may be requested by your veterinarian. Direct payments to BCMVS from pet owners is not available.
You should contact your local veterinarian immediately. If your local veterinarian is unavailable, we strongly urge you to take your pet to your local emergency clinic.
We treat small animal companion animals such as dogs and cats. We do not treat pocket pets, exotics, horses, or large animal species.
We are busy visiting clinics between the hours of 9 am-4 pm, Monday through Thursday. Fridays are an administrative day but we will sometimes provide services on Fridays to make up for any holidays or days during the week when the specialist may have been unavailable. We are closed major holidays that includes New Year’s Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Easter, Thanksgiving Day, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Yes, BCMVS is proud to support members of our community with a 10% discount that are first responders, teachers, senior citizens, veterans, active military, or have recently rescued a pet (in the last six months from a shelter, rescue organization, SNAP, Humane Society, or SPCA). Foster parents for pets that are working under a rescue organization may receive a discount if a 501c is provided to BCMVS prior to the appointment.
