Lastly, BCMVS helps keep your records up to date since our reports can function as a stand-alone document for your records and your client’s records.
Bayou City Mobile Veterinary Specialists was founded in 2019 by Dr. Savannah Craig. Dr. Craig is a Houston native and graduate of the Texas A&M University Biomedical Science program, College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Mays Business School. She earned her specialization in internal medicine after finishing a 1-year internship and 3-year residency at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists.
Sensing the frustration many pet owners have when they are referred to a large specialty hospital, Dr. Craig saw the value in being able to work closer with the local veterinarians and allowing access to these advanced diagnostics in a manner that is convenient for the veterinarian and the pet owner. It can be time-consuming, intimidating, and expensive to take a pet to these larger specialty hospitals for some pet owners. Therefore, Dr. Craig decided to start a business of her own that would meet the needs of pet owners looking for another option.
Our services help to preserve the close relationship the primary care veterinarian has with their pet owners. This is because our internal medicine diagnostics and services are performed in a manner where the local veterinarian remains part of the decision-making process and is involved in the therapeutic process as well. The local veterinarian remains the main point of contact for all communications regarding the types of internal medicine services to be performed, the results of any testing performed, and recommendations.
Both the local veterinarian and the pet owner receive a comprehensive report created by the specialist which details important facts about the pet, diagnostics performed and results, results interpretation in light of the symptoms or problems the pet is experiencing, recommendations for additional diagnostics that may be warranted, recommendations on therapy including drug dosages, and recommendations for next steps. Any pertinent pictures obtained via ultrasound or endoscopy will also be provided to both the local veterinarian and pet owner. Because we understand that details regarding the pet are important, questionnaires are also provided and used by the specialist (once completed by the pet owner and local veterinarian) in order to obtain a thorough case history.
Any canine or feline patient who is experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, lethargy, kidney issues, liver problems, poor appetite, chronic disease, diagnosed or suspected Cushing’s disease, diabetes mellitus, polydipsia and polyuria, chronic autoimmune conditions, nasal disease, chronic cough, urinary diseases, and suspected neoplasia.
Patients with obvious neurologic, orthopedic, or cardiac disorders. We also recommend that any unstable patients with respiratory distress, low blood pressure, severe anemias, cardiac arrythmias, or in shock (low body temperature, high body temperature) seek emergency stabilization or care with other specialty centers.
The services provided by BCMVS are slightly different in that your client will not be meeting face to face with the specialist. However, your client will be awarded the ability to provide important details about their pet with an online questionnaire that the specialist will read and the specialist will interpret with other important history and diagnostic testing results.
